Scholl Farms supports a thriving Community Garden!
If you'd like a garden plot in Scholl Farms, please call Stuart Scholl at 231-893-1311. Stu is generally working in the fields so you may have to wait for a call back. There is no receptionist. Please leave a message including your telephone number.
Our standard plot is roughly 20' by 25', a total of 500 square feet--about the size of a one car garage. You can pick pretty much the size plot you want, however--either smaller or larger than the standard. Beginning gardeners might want to start with a one car garage. Cost is roughly 10 cents per square foot-so the standard plot would run $50 for a season. For this modest expense, Scholl Farms provides fertile, organic, pesticide-free soil, well-prepared for planting. In addition, our irrigation system waters Community Garden plots as needed.
IMPORTANT: This is an ENTIRELY ORGANIC garden. Members agree not to use ANY SORT of pesticide, herbicide or other non-organic substance in the garden. We strongly discourage the use of fertilizers as well--they simply aren't needed in our fertile soil. If you have an organic fertilizer you want to use, please get Stu's approval first.
